My training has included Humanistic, Psychodynamic, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and Gestalt as part of an integrative practice. I have had separate Art Therapy training and draw on this training for clients who wish to use art and play therapy within their sessions.
A humanistic approach is rooted in all aspects of my work, grounded in empathy and non-judgement, based on Carl Rogers person-centred practice. Advanced training to work with children and young people informs all of my work with adults increasing understanding of attachment, loss, trauma and complex trauma.
As a qualified adult, child and young person counsellor and relationship therapist I have ongoing supervision and training and am required to have continuing professional development which informs all of my practice. As part of training I have undertaken required therapy over a number of years and personal learning here, also informs my practice as I understand the empathy and compassion required to build the relationship of trust that is central to working together.
Through play therapy and an integrative approach that uses strategies from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Gestalt rooted in Humanistic Therapy, the complexities of growing up, transitions and life events that bring children and young people to counselling are explored. I have a lot of resources that people of all ages can choose from to work with and this includes working creatively and with therapy games if wished. I trained separately to qualify to work with children and young people as well as adults.
I work with children from 5 to 11 years old and young people up to age 18.
An integrative approach is offered grounded in training that covers Psychodynamic, Gestalt and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. Working with your unique needs an approach is agreed that is based on your preferences. I am a qualified adult counsellor but my practice is also informed by child and young person advanced training covering attachment, trauma and complex trauma, which informs my practice, to work with you with compassion at your pace.
This work focuses on the relationship between two people, including married and unmarried partners and other couple relationships (for example, parent and child and co-workers). A neutral space is offered to facilitate open communication to share and hear each other to build stronger and healthier relationships and to face changes that may be sought. Relationship Therapy training (Juliet Grayson) has included, for example, considering the fundamentals of relationships, ageing and sex and diversity and difference, conflict in relationships and affairs.
Whatever you choose to talk about is confidential but there are a few exceptions which counsellors and therapists ethically agree to, these will be talked through fully in the first paid session, for example, I am legally required to report planned acts of terrorism. These exceptions are rare and they are in place to ensure your protection and safeguarding.
Children, Young People and Adults £60 for 50 minute sessions.
Relationship Couples Therapy £90 for 60 minute sessions.
I do offer some lower cost sessions so please do enquire.
The choice is yours about when to end counselling and talking this through is part of therapy, I would ask that we allow a few sessions to work towards a safe ending.
